First of all: I 'despise' these generalizations. You can run into terrible 'or' terribly nice people wherever you go.
Having said that: "Because YouTube is a cesspool full of sharks. By design." ;p
'YouTube as a company', has one single goal and that is money. They are always moving towards more and more videos made by less and less people - and their algorithms reflect this. (Also: right wing propaganda - "I wonder how that happens...") Despite YouTubers speaking up against the various unethical practices as well as insane changes, the YouTube community is mostly unaware or uncaring, as long as they aren't _directly_ affected. (Same with services like Amazon, btw...)
'YouTube the site' is organized around one thing: That Ad-money. Don't forget: YouTube was bought by Google quite some time ago. People paying to see 'premium' content or to not see ads is more of a side hustle to them. That company wants those targeted ads that push purchase decisions. (Excuse me for a moment while I rinse out my mouth...) They aren't interested in building a 'community'; they want a 'consumer base'. They just want numbers to go up (any numbers, really), so they can tell investors and advertisement partners how 'engaged' people will be with 'those places that show ads' - also known as 'the videos people actually came to see'. The product they sell isn't the videos; their product is the viewers - their data, their attention, their time. Their customers aren't the users; their customers are the advertisers.
It's a bit like 'SimCity': You can build a city that's nice to look at with happy citizens, or you can built a machine that gets you the highest numbers. YouTube strives for the money; Newgrounds strives to be a place for artists to grow and for the community to celebrate their art.
Unfortunately... Well... Not to sound too grim, but because Newgrounds isn't much of a money making machine it is depending on the generosity (and liquidity) of its user-base to keep the servers running. To the best of my knowledge NG is currently still operating at a loss. "Recently" more and more thought is being put into which features can be developed that would raise the number of subscribers. But yeah: In my eyes YouTube is merely 'one more place that hosts videos free of charge'. Although they silently put videos through some codecs that make them darker and 'slightly worse', it's still 'free'.
If YouTube went away tomorrow, there would be several replacements with the exact same features within 3 days. If Newgrounds went away tomorrow it would be mourned and used as an example that servers (and staff!) cannot run on love alone. But there would be no replacement to fill that hole.

People watch YouTube like it was TV. Average mf on their couch staring at mindless drivel isn't looking for friendly chat. In fact they are probably on there to try and tune out life.
If you on NG however, you probably a creative-minded, or creativity-loving person who actively uses their brain at least occasionally & likely come here to be active & semi-sociable & involved.
NG used to be so much edgier. In a way, I kinda miss it, but it's a good change overall.
And we can still make all the dick jokes we want tbh.
