As a vegetarian I have looked into pet options before. You can keep a dog alive with a vegetarian diet - it's a challenge, but it can be done. But not a cat.
I'm no biologist, so I might be mixing up terms here:
- Dogs are omnivorous (like humans). If it grows and doesn't contain something poisonous to them in a dosage that is too high for their body size, it can be eaten.
- Cats are carnivorous. That means almost exclusively things that had a face and a heartbeat once. I'm unsure what that cat's diet was, but I would guess that it was either not vegan/vegetarian by my definition or not a healthy diet at all. I doubt that cat was particularly old...
Her vet might have had something to say about that as well...
