Thank you, but that wasn't quite the point I was making.
"Abbreviations make everything shorter", but they are pointless if one of the parties involved doesn't know what they stand for or assumes the wrong meaning. An understanding can develop over time, but I'd say it will take "a while" until an international audience will be able to decipher every English abbreviation correctly.
Until then I'd suggest just writing out what you are trying to say when addressing a bigger audience. ;)
